Frequently
Asked Questions:
1.
Do I have to put the father's name on the birth certificate?
No,
you have the option of writing "Unknown" or "Refuse
to State" in place of his name; however, this does not remove
his rights and he may be able to have his name added to the birth
certificate.
2.
What to I need to do to collect child support?
Visit the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services web page for
more information
http://jfs.ohio.gov/Ocs/parents.stm or call 1-800-686-1556.
3. Do I have the right to stop the father's visitation if he
does not pay child support?
No.
Child support and visitation are independent rights of the child.
One does not affect the other.
4. How does paternity testing work?
The mother, father and baby must be tested either voluntarily or through
a court order. A blood test can prove that he is not the father, but
only genetic testing can prove without a doubt that he is the father.
5. What rights does the father have in if I give my baby up
for adoption?
The father has rights to receive notice of the adoption and is given
an opportunity to contest the adoption.
